Foreign Language Bookstores in Los Angeles

The best way to practice a foreign language by yourself, is to read! (The best way to practice with others, is Lexody… obvi!). Here is a great list of bookstores in the Los Angeles area that have books in foreign languages.

 

The Last Bookstore

Hidden in the back of the store is a selection of foreign language books. We have seen French, Spanish, Italian, Russian and German. They have comfy places to sit and read too, so you can dive into stories before you purchase. Did we mention – it’s gorgeous inside too??

 

 

Kinokuniya

This is one of our favorite go-to chain bookstores for Japanese books. Most likely the largest selection of Japanese books in all of the LA area, you won’t be disappointed! They have all reading levels – from children books to advanced adult, and of course Manga. You are bound to find a book in Japanese about pretty much anything you want! You can also geek-out over all their cool Japanese movies, trinkets and stationary. Most of the staff speaks Japanese, so you can also try out your speaking skills while perusing their selection.

 

Tu Luc Bookstore

Their books range from children books to adult books and magazines. They have popular Vietnamese books, but also popular English books translated into Vietnamese (what’s up Harry Potter!)

 

 

Jarir Book Store

They also have a wide selection of levels -from children to adult. One of the great perks is that you can also speak Arabic with the staff, and even go in and ask for suggestions! There’s also a cool selection of Arab-style goodies besides books – rugs, art, flags, and stationary.

 

Bookman

Because it is a used bookstore, their collection is constantly changing, and may include other languages at times too.

 

 

 

Skylight Books

Skylight Books has a good selection of foreign-language books. Primarily, we see Spanish and French selections. They also have a wide selection of author events, which makes this store quite the community for book-lovers of all languages!

 

 

Gily Bookstore

Walking in, you feel like you’re stepping into China – even their sign outside is in Chinese (look for the word GILY in English.) They have a wide selection of reaad – childrens books, magazines, novels, recipe books, and more! The best part – it’s quite reasonably priced. There’s also a selection of fun Chinese trinkets and stationary.

 

 

SeJong Bookstore

They have Korean novels, magazines, and even books on how to learn Korean. Their levels range from childrens books to adults, so you’re bound to find something to practice your Korean learning.
