La casa de los espíritus es la primera novela de la escritora chilena Isabel Allende, publicada en Buenos Aires por Editorial Sudamericana en 1982. Tuvo un éxito inmediato de superventas a nivel internacional, ha sido traducida a numerosos idiomas​ y llevada al cine con el mismo nombre por Bille August; estrenada en 1993, la protagonizaron Jeremy Irons, Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, Winona Ryder y Antonio Banderas.También hay adaptaciones al teatro, como la de la dramaturga estadounidense Caridad Svich,que se ha presentado en países como Costa Rica.

The novel was rejected by several Spanish-language publishers before being published in Buenos Aires in 1982. It became an instant best-seller, was critically acclaimed, and catapulted Allende to literary stardom. The novel was named Best Novel of the Year in Chile in 1982, and Allende received the country's Panorama Literario award

I really enjoyed this, which is the first book by Isabel Allende. It's not a gentle book, following the Trueba family, but it's a great read, involves lots of Allende’s iconic magical realism and was great for improving my Spanish reading.
